Anger Management

ONLINE AND IN-PERSON THERAPY IN PITTSBURGH, PA

Sunset

When we get angry, chemicals are released in the brain that prepare the body to fight. Natural pain relievers are also released. For some people, anger is their go-to emotion for everything. By getting angry they avoid whatever the more painful, underlying feeling is. Getting angry feels better than feeling sad, vulnerable, ashamed, etc. While anger is a useful, necessary emotion, intended to protect us, it becomes problematic when it is your response to every upsetting situation. Out of control anger can cause a lot of damage to a person's life.

Treatment for anger management might include looking at the client's history with anger and identifying any patterns.  We would focus on recognizing anger warning signs in the body.  Learning emotional regulation and self soothing techniques will be crucial in helping the client better manage intense emotion.
