I am an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), a Certified EMDR Therapist, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I specialize in treating symptoms of childhood emotional neglect, such as: anxiety, panic attacks, insecure attachment styles, abandonment wounds, emotional dysregulation, low self esteem and self worth, and relationship difficulties.
My goal as a therapist is to help clients develop healthier habits, gain awareness, learn healthy coping skills, and heal trauma using a combo of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness techniques.
Using Mindfulness, I help clients develop healthier daily habits. I teach self soothing techniques that, over time, will work to repair the brain. Mindfulness techniques can help decrease stress levels, decrease emotional reactivity, and increase ones ability to cope with distressing thoughts and situations.
I use CBT to help clients change their thinking style, reframe, challenge irrational thoughts and cognitive distortions, and ultimately to change the way they are looking at things. Wayne Dyer said it best, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at changes." He also said that "You don't have to believe everything you think." However, getting out of the habit of believing everything we think takes practice. It requires us to retrain our brains to think differently. I help my clients do that.
I use EMDR therapy with clients who have trauma symptoms, fears, anxieties, and with clients who have negative beliefs about themselves that are interfering with their lives. EMDR therapy works to desensitize and reprocess the traumatic memories, while replacing negative beliefs with positive self referencing beliefs. As a result, the client is less triggered by the memory and more confident in the world. Many of my clients report improvements after just one EMDR session.
Unfortunately, many of us have unhealed childhood trauma that is still affecting us. If you want better relationships, less anxiety and depressions, and more confidence and self-worth, then contact me today to start therapy. EMDR therapy can heal years of emotional wounds in a fraction of the time as traditional talk therapy can.
